Excitedly, we all set-off to White Air Festival in our nice (slightly too bright) red T-shirts for a bit of fun, to tell people about Kumutu and to remind ourselves why we are putting so much hard work into the business (we have to do this from time to time as sitting in front of a computer all day isn’t exactly why this was all started).
We got out of our cars half expecting the area to be rammed full of skateboarders, kitesurfers, BMXers, people in baggy shorts and beanies…just generally knarly dudes. It wasn’t exactly the case. Friday was a bit dead to be honest, but we got in there had a look around and found it quite nice to take part in all sorts of adventure activities without having to queue. There were some good displays of mountain boarding and skating and Biffy Clyro went down well.
Saturday was much busier and there was a buzz to the place. One could say that the weather was almost scorching, but unfortunately not enough wind for some watersports – guess you can’t have it both ways. There were more excellent displays and some picturesque views of people kayaking, jetskiing and sailing on the sea.
It was great to see Ryan stack it on the Indo-board and we enjoyed The Cribs but the highlight had to be watching a persistent wakeboarder not quite managing to make any of his jumps…but kept going for a long long time…that’s the spirit!
All in all the festival was good, but could possibly be improved next year. There could have been more people, and it felt a little bit like an army recruitment centre. But mainly there could have been a better arrangement of the stalls – why have everything on the car-park and not make more use of the beach?
Not complaining though…we will certainly be there next year!
