First day up the hill for team Kumutu

First day up the hill for team Kumutu

Season Open!!!

After a mild autumn in New Zealand with no snow anywhere all of s sudden it changed, a big system rolled in and over 1m of new snow fell ready for opening day, the Southern Alps and Mt Hutt were ready to open!

A quick call to Frank and away we went, first day for NZ in 2010! Mt Hutt is situated an hour and a half from Christchurch, making it very accessible and easy to plan a day riding. With a magic carpet, quad chair, summit six and a triple chair Mt Hutt has terrain to suit all abilities. Being early season not all trails were open but that didn’t affect the ability to burn the legs. As we made our way to the top we scoped out all the terrain and a backdrop on a picture perfect day.

For myself and Frank being old friends through our days of skating it was good to see him back from London and strapping in. After a few pointers we headed straight for the park and into some boxes and rails, “keep low” was the call and all tricks were stomped! A quick stop for lunch then back into the afternoon riding till the hill closed.

After an awesome first day up the hill it was time to go home and plan the next one. We would like to thank Mt Hutt for a great day especially Dave Nurse and his park crew for a great little park for the start of the season. Currently the beginner park is open with 4 features while the big park and pipe is getting a good dose of snowmaking and grooming.

Cheers
Graeme
